Israel's Supreme Court freezes PM's order to sack security chief

Israel's Supreme Court issued an injunction to halt the dismissal of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The cabinet had approved Bar's dismissal due to the agency's failure to anticipate the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Netanyahu cited "ongoing distrust" as the reason. This would be the first time a Shin Bet leader has been fired by a government. The court's decision freezes the dismissal until a hearing, scheduled no later than April 8, can be held to consider the matter further.
