Nasa astronauts return to Earth after nine months in space
Following a nine-month space voyage, astronauts Butch
Wilmore and Suni Williams have returned to Earth. With the help of four
parachutes, their SpaceX spacecraft made a violent re-entry and then a soft
splashdown off the coast of Florida. Technical problems with their original
spacecraft caused the mission, which was originally scheduled to last eight
days, to be extended. A lengthier stay and ultimate return via SpaceX were
required since the astronauts' first Boeing Starliner was ruled hazardous for
reentry to the ISS. Their extended mission offers important new information
about the impact of prolonged space travel on human health.
